Office Setup Rambles

IMG_1942

Guys, I don’t know what to do about my office space. I took this picture several days ago after getting the crap off my desk and cleaning out the steel wire shelves that sit just to the right of my desk (using my clutter busting question of course), but then after that Keola and I decided it might be nice to have the desk in the bedroom where we can close the door and work. Problem with that is that I can’t close the door and work during the day. I need a desk to be out in the open…you know…where the kids are…

But I don’t know. It’s not like I really do any work during the day anyway.

Plus the desk is making our bedroom feel a little claustrophobic.

Plus I don’t know how much I like the idea of bringing work furniture into the bedroom.

And ya, I have a laptop and can work anywhere, but I like having a dedicated workspace.

But the desk currently sits under a window, and it was facing a wall before…

Bah!

I’ve never done so much furniture arranging in. my. life. The only thing that has not moved from the spot we first put it when we moved in to this house is our bed. Seriously.

Welcome to my brain. Yes, it’s exhausting being me.

How do you feel about having a desk in the bedroom?

  1. I have a love/hate relationship with a desk in my bedroom. I like to be able to work in my bedroom, because my bedroom is my haven, and I can focus well there. Buuuuut I don’t like sharing my bedroom with my office. We just put two desks in our bedroom a couple of months ago, and now our room looks like a workroom with a bed. Totally not zen for a bedroom.
Wherever the desk looks and feels best, I guess. Good luck.

    1. Esther you crack me up! Yeah I think I like the zen bedroom better…I just don’t feel relaxed walking in there right now, and heaven knows we need to relax a little more. Hope you guys are adjusting well! I still can’t believe you’re on the mainland now. I was beginning to think you’d live in Hawaii forever 🙂

  2. My desk and my sewing machine are both in my bedroom and it does take up a lot of space in there. When I was a stay-at-home-mom it was a lot easier for me to have them in there because my son still sleeps in the room. He has his own bed, toy box, and TV area so I would be able to work while he was still sleeping or playing on the floor.
Having a designated work area is important, but you also have to adapt to your surroundings and your situation. Maybe keep the desk in your room, but have a smaller, alternate space in the common area of the house.

    1. I like the idea of maybe having two work places. I think the main workspace is better outside, but a small writing table or something in the bedroom (that looks nice…and NOT like a desk) might be good!

  3. Yeah that is tough…. I totally see the problem. I don’t put mine in the room because there isn’t room. It would be nice to have it in an area where you can close the door. But I think I would probably still keep it out in the “main” area. Just because I do work and use my desk for so much stuff during the day…. egghhh who knows though 🙂

  4. If I had the luxury of space, I’d leave any office/working equipment out of my bedroom (computer, desk, etc). Like you said, you can’t close the door & work during the day anyways. So a desk in there might just become a place to place unfolded laundry and clutter, right?
