Noweo's 1st 4th

It didn't seem that long ago that my family used to enjoy the 4th of July fireworks from the bird's eye view we had in our front yard. The flashing colors and soft explosions we saw and heard were treats for the senses, but as the years went on, the 4th of July fireworks display slowly lost its' awe-inspiring wonder and for several years I opted to stay at home rather than fight traffic to watch fifteen minutes of flying color.

This year, my lack of spirit almost kept us home again. I told myself that Nōweo was too young and she wouldn't remember it anyway, but since this was the first real holiday spectacle that she could enjoy, we thought we shouldn't pass it up.

So 15 minutes before the show we headed out to try to find a suitable vantage point that wasn't already overcrowded. We managed to find a curb downtown to park our behinds and settled in for 15 minutes of fiery fun.

In that 15 minutes I discovered that I made the right decision. Nōweo wasn't exactly held in rapt attention, (sometimes she was looking everywhere BUT the fireworks...streetlights, cars, other people...) but there were moments where I saw that same wonder in her eyes that I used to have, and I was living my childhood again through her. It got to the point where I barely watched the fireworks and only watched her. Tonight I learned that being a parent isn't so much about experiencing new things as it is watching our children experience new things and feeling their innocent excitement. It was such a simple moment, but so happy.
In other news, Nōweo is sucking her thumb more and more often, but every time she does she grabs her face:
I think it's funny.
I'm also noticing that she constantly seems to have really bad bed head. I wish I could keep her off her back more often:
...aaaand I just felt like throwing this in because it's so stinkin' cute!
Hope you all had a fun 4th of July! GOODNIGHT :) :)
